John Shelton
My photographs start as a reflection of nature being spiritual -- something vastly larger, more significant, more relevant, and yet perhaps simpler and more peaceful than we perceive our daily passage. I like to isolate the power and beauty of our environment, but also like to explore man's interaction with that environment, whether natural or not. Focusing primarily on natural landscapes, urbanscapes, and architectural work, my imagery emphasizes these natural and manmade elements, separate or together, exploring relationships, drawing attention to the depth and power of my subjects, and isolating their importance within the moment. Using the tools of perspective and illumination, my photographs highlight the textures, patterns, line, and layers within, while presenting strong contrasts and rich complementary hues throughout. Whether in color or grayscale, the work evokes mood, serenity, solitude, and even an ethereal quality that brings added depth, beauty, and meaning to a thing, place, or situation.
Shelton PhotoWorks has exhibited hundreds of pieces in exhibitions and galleries, and published over 40 photos in the last five years.
